Paint.NET – image editor with layer support
Paint.NET is a free open source image and photo manipulation software specially designed for Microsoft Windows. Paint.NET is a jointly developed at Washington State University with additional help from Microsoft, and is meant to be a free replacement for the MS Paint software.
The program offer Simple, intuitive, and innovative user interface with support for layers, unlimited undo, special effects, and a wide variety of useful and powerful tools. In order to handle multiple images easily, it use tabbed document interface. The tabs display a live thumbnail of the image instead of a text description. This makes navigation very simple and fast.
The Interface also offer Aero glass effect if you are using Windows 7 or Vista. Paint.NET support to all common image formats such as JPEG, PNG, GIF, TIFF, and others–but not high-resolution RAW files. C# with GDI extensions programming language are used to create Paint.NET software.
It offer many advanced features that expensive commercial software have such as ability to use layers for a rich image composition experience. Additional features include blurring, sharpening, red-eye removal, distortion, noise, and embossing, image resizing, multi-level Undo and many more.
